Sunday July the 21st saw this years annual DDAPS angling youth fishing fun day at Horton Kirby Lakes.  The weather at this year’s event was to say the least glorious, and made a welcome change from the inclement weather that greeted us at last year’s event.

As the young guests and their companions joined us in the morning, it became apparent that this years event was going to be every much a success as it has been in previous years.

Once booked in and armed with their free tackle that was so kindly donated by the tackle Box. The youngsters were off in pursuit of their quarry. Some chose to take advantage of the free one to one professional tuition by registered angling coaches, others headed off to catch a whopper, and it wasn’t long before the majority of guests were banking fish.

There were some creditable catches too, including a carp that was estimated to weigh around 2 ½ lb and numerous bream to around the 3lb mark.

As in previous years at the end of the day a presentation was held, and awards duly awarded. The Fish of the day award was presented to John Jarvis for his 2 1/2lb carp caught on the West Lake, The Coaches award was presented to Jacob Hare, and Angler of the day was given to Tom Green. On hand to present the awards were the Chairman of DDAPS Mr. Clive Archer, Kevin Peet from the event sponsors the Tackle Box, and the Environment Agency. As in previous years the free to enter raffle was then held and numerous complete fishing kits won including the star prize kindly donated by Mark 2 Angling.

At the culmination of the days events all of the guests were allowed to keep the equipment that they had been provided upon their arrival, this will enable them to continue to enjoy fishing for foreseeable future in our beautiful countryside.

DDAPS would like to thank all of the volunteers on the day, without whom, the day would not have been possible. Smith and Chapman photography, Kent police, The Environment Agency, Mark 2 Angling, and a special thanks to The Tackle Box who sponsored the event and provided the bait and all of the tackle which the guests got to keep.

Thank you.
