Sunday 7th of June saw the 16th year of the DDAPS youth angling fun day, the event has taken place every year since 2008 with the exception of the Covid lock down.

This years event was met with the worst weather imaginable and prolonged periods of torrential rain interspersed with bright sunshine, despite the inclement weather the day ended up being a great success, in fact with 355 youngsters attending it ended up being the 3rd biggest event the society has run.

The day started well with good weather and plenty of fish being caught all around the lakes, and there were some notable catches with a roach approaching the magic 1lb mark, and a perch nearing 2lb being caught. Tench, carp and large bream also being reported along with large numbers of smaller roach and perch.

At the end of day, the free raffle and award presentation took place in what could only be described as monsoon like conditions. Despite the weather, a large number of guests remained in order to congratulate the winners. The Coaches award was won by a Jack Palin who had never caught a fish before and under the expert guidance of a coach, went on to catch around 30 fish including a bream of 4lb. Taksh won the fish of the day award by landing a carp on the pole weighing in around the 4lb mark on his 1st ever fishing trip. The prestigious Tackle Box angler of the day was won by Ollie Pinfold, who again had never been fishing before and caught around 15 fish, including a really good sized perch. Well done to all of the winners who walked away with a certificate, trophy and a complete fishing kit kindly donated by the event sponsor’s the TACKLE BOX.

After the trophy presentation concluded, the free to enter raffle took place and numerous youngster’s won a complete fishing set up.

Even though only a few could win a raffle prize, the TACKLE BOX who once again generously sponsored the event and provided all of the equipment and bait told all of the anglers who participated  that they were welcome to keep the tackle which they had supplied !

DDAPS would like to thank the TACKLE BOX in Watling Street for their generous and kind support of the event each year, and would also like to thank all of the volunteers who helped organise and run the event and make it the success it is.

Thank each and every one of you,  and we hope to see you at next year’s event.
