Last year (2010) DDAPS had a survey done by Dr Bruno Broughton after discussion with our anglers over their concerns that our lakes were not fishing well. The survey revealed that our main lakes had very little natural food which was the result of inaccurate advise given to past management. The survey has been done and we will be carrying it out to the letter as per Bruno’s instructions. The siltexing or should I say hydrated lime is being applied to one third of each of our lakes, then in three weeks time it will be applied to another third, then three weeks after that the final third will be done. As each third is done it raises the ph of the water in that area, this is why we recommend you avoid these areas for a while untill it settles down. The reason for this action is to reduce the depth of silt in our lakes, deep black silt is of no use to a fishery. In the early spring we will apply a phosphate to create bacteria in the water as the temperature rises. This is not a one off and may have to be done on a bi annual basis to bring our lakes back to where they should be.

As of 10th January 2011 the Rangers have started putting hydrated lime in the lakes in conjunction with our Lakes survey.

The Big lake at Sutton has been done from Scruffy Bob’s swim upwards including the cottage bay.

The Small lake has been done from the car park area up to the weed beds.

11th January 2011 The Westminster lake has been done from swim 14 round to swim 28 (Top end)
and the Viaduct Lake has been done from swim 90 round to swim 62 (Centre path end).

12th January 2011 The left hand 1/3 of the Western lake has been done
and the Silt pond has been done halfway down each side of the island.

12th January 2011 The top of the Banjo at Sutton has been done.

31st January 2011 Sutton small lake has been done from swim 51
to swim 65 and the Big lake has been done from swim 36 to swim 7.

1st February 2011 Viaduct lake has been done from swim 70 to swim 83 (bottom of lake)

1st February 2011 Westminster lake has been done from swim 4 to swim 37 (Centre path end)

2nd February 2011 Western lake has been done from swim 131 to swim 140 and swim 144 to swim 154

2nd February 2011 Silt pond has been done from swim 112 to swim 124 (Top end)

2nd February 2011 Banjo has been done from swim 7 to swim 25

21st February 2011 The Big lake has been done between both islands

21st February 2011 Small lake has been done from swim 36 to swim 51 (middle of lake)

22nd February 2011 The Western lake has been done from swim 145 to swim 153

22nd February 2011 The middle of the Silt pond has been done

22nd February 2011 The middle of the Banjo has been done

23rd February 2011 The middle of the Westminster lake has been done

23rd February 2011 The middle of the Viaduct lake has been done

Please try to avoid these areas as the PH levels have been increased due to this action and fishing maybe poor in these areas.

More Siltexing will be carried out and will be announced on the News page closer to the time.
